Home Computer Network PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 17 August 2008

Why would I want to have a computer network in my home? When most people hear the words, computer network, they think of offices and workstations where people share printers, databases, and the internet. That may have been true a few years ago, but today everyone and everything is connected to the internet. Most households today have more than one computer. That is why networking is starting to be seen in more houses everyday.

There are several benefits to having a home computer network. If you have a home computer network everyone can be on the internet at the same time on different sites. You can share fax machines and printers which eliminates having to purchase more than one. A network allows everyone to enjoy using their computers and the internet at the same time, which means your time isn’t wasted waiting for your turn at the computer.

Since home networking is becoming more popular there has been an increase in demand which means there are more choices available. You can connect your home computer network using a wired or wireless network. The most popular by far is the wireless due to the fact you would not have cables running through your house.

Setting up a home computer network is fairly simple. You are provided with a CD that has step by step instructions to follow. There is usually a toll free tech support number which can be used if needed. With either type of network the computers can be at opposite ends of a home and still work effectively. The installation takes approximately 20 minutes to network two computers together.

You can purchase home computer network routers and Ethernet PCI cards online, at office supply stores, department stores, and electronic stores. They are reasonable priced and readily available almost everywhere. The system will actually pay for itself if you take into account that you are getting internet service on more than one computer for one monthly price. Also it will save you time and hassles when there is more than one internet user in your household. So if you are part of the growing trend and have more than one computer in your household you should definitely look into setting up a home computer network.
