Get a Government Grant to Start a Business PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 19 August 2007

Government grants are available to many US citizens or eligible non citizens annually. However, these government grants are not just given away to anyone, certain requirements must be met. First of all, if your business idea is not consistent with new technology or non profit agencies, your chances are slim to none in getting a government grant. Your parents might help you but the government is not in the business of handing out free money at the expense of the taxpayer on a quirk of a business idea.

Many more restrictions will apply for government grants that will be used for starting a new business. Another thing that the government considers is whether or not your business will bring new employment to the area and if it will be opened in an area that is not doing very well financially.

There are also government grants available for tech savvy entrepreneurs that can assist the government with new technology. The problem with that is that most people who have the capability of creating a proposal for the government of that technological magnitude usually do not need the money in the first place. So, your average Joe off of the streets would not qualify for this type of government grant. The bottom line is that in order to get a government grant to start up a new business, it needs to be one that will benefit the community or the public at large.

The best place to start looking for a government grant is the grants.gov website as it will guide you through the process and help you locate legitimate government grants that are available. It will also help you identify which government grants are available and the eligibility requirements. Another interesting piece of information is that government grants are not available year round. To find out when they are offered you will have to wait for the government agency to offer them.

One you are certain as to when the government grants applications are being accepted, just write a great proposal letter that includes your plans, and a budget. Remember that there is some competition involved here so you will want to make certain that yours is top grade.
